Esters Epler
Branding for homemade apple jam
BRAND STRATEGY
BRAND IDENTITY
VISUAL DESIGN
Esters Epler (Ester’s Apples in Norwegian) is a homemade jam crafted from real Norwegian apples growing in the lush gardens of Southern Norway.
Inspired by the incandescent gradients of the endless batches of apples in the late summer and the iridescent skies over the horizon from the coast, Ester’s Epler honours not only Ester, the green-thumbed lady of the house who cultivated her family garden until the ripe age of 98, but also the many women left to tend to the land and their families while the men of the Norwegian southern coast went away at sea.

Armed with the 100+ year-old heritage of Ester’s garden, the intention was to bring a contemporary edge to the branding - almost like Ester herself, having lived up to a ripe age of 98 years old - both her and the garden have transformed through and bridged across time, holding steadfast whilst alchemising to withstand the winds of change across the decades.
To honour this heritage whilst highlighting its arrival to contemporary times, custom illustrations in both pen and coloured pastels were made digitally to create this juxtaposition — or maybe that’s the wrong word to use here. Perhaps it’s more of an homage to the resilience of both the garden and its grower — that even through the test of time it can remain mutable but present.
